From generation to generation our family recipes have been the hallmark by which we have remained connected to our history. Soul food, or southern comfort as we call it, has come to serve as the reminder of the home and family our grandparents and parents left behind during The Great Migration, after moving to the unfamiliar north in search of better opportunities.
Through their love of family gatherings, my parents, Margaret (Maggie) and John Wiggins (Ease) established SOUTHERN COMFORT, a neighborhood favorite in Long Island City Queens in 1987. Our family restaurant served as evidence that southern comfort is more than just food, it's the traditions passed down and an expression of the heart.
I can remember seeing my parents in the kitchen- They would both be cooking or baking one of our family’s famous dishes or making our signature sparkling lemonades. My seven siblings and I did our assigned tasks, all while my parents sang songs and danced around one another- you could definitely feel the love. People would literally line up because they wanted to experience all of this goodness.
Even then no matter the time of day, I was always ready for one of our sumptuous desserts. Banana pudding, peach cobbler, endless pies and cakes, we sold it all. SOUTHERN COMFORT truly was the epitome of down home cooking, there everything was made with love.
That same love is still alive and well at MAGGIE & EASE today, and it's what gives our desserts their unique flavor. MAGGIE & EASE is inspired by the love story of my parents, Margaret and John Wiggins, better known as Maggie and Ease. We at MAGGIE & EASE are committed to preparing great desserts and providing a remarkable and enriching experience, through bold flavor and savory delights, made generously from the heart.
In the future, we hope to create crafted flavor products that would be available at your local market, as well as a full course menu as MAGGIE & EASE grows into a premier dining destination for all things southern comfort. Where the food is prepared and served with genuine love and care every time.
